Multi use magic
The singular effect of using one stone type for several applications

Repeating a design element in a methodical, mindful way really ties a project together. At this sprawling Sanibel beach home, using the same stone in various ways lends intentionality and elegance. Meanwhile, the natural variation in the stone gives such a large house a coziness and welcoming feel, where it might otherwise seem cold and too formal.
The fountain demonstrates the homeowners’ desire to integrate a sense of play and formality. Cladding it in the same flagstone as on the columns leading into the entrance courtyard adds color and interest, while lending a softer element to the metal sculptures.
Here’s the before shot. You can imagine how the use of a a harder, glossier stone would have taken it another direction. It’s not about better or worse – it’s all about creating a setting that befits the house and the personalities of its owners.

Of course, once you’ve welcomed your guests, they’ll want to be wined and dined. We carried the stonework into the grilling area. A good meal will always seal the deal. Then, have a seat in this cozy room – yes, it’s still the same house.
